So one of the YUME Music sponsored artists C. J. BROWNE just hit us with some phenominal news , He will be working on some collaborative projects with 2 of the best up and coming bands in the game BOYCE AVENUE (www.myspace.com/boyceavenue) and THERE FOR TOMMOROW (www.myspace.com/therefortommorow) on the collaboratie project we mentioned in an earlier post. Not only that he is headed out for a UK promotional tour in March and working with some of the UK's elite in producing his EP set to release in Fall 2009.

Look out for releases coming in 2009 from our newley signed on YUME Music artist, CHARLIE BROWNE as we relase his versions of your favorite and his favorite bands leading up until the YUME:TIMELESS Project. We are looking forward to the craziness we are sure he is going to lay down.

Here's a definition of Mashups, we feel like C.J BROWNE deffinitley has the potential to do some great stuff while masing and remixing songs.

A mashup , bootleg or blend[1] (also mash up and mash-up) is a song or composition created from the combination of the music from one song with the a cappella from another. A mash-up is a song created out of pieces of two or more songs, usually by overlaying the vocal track of one song seamlessly over the music track of another.[2]

In full swing at the end of the 20th century, mashups have been described positively as "ultimate post-modern pop song[s]" or "'culture jamming in its purest form'"[3] They have also been described negatively as "the logical extension of the sampling fever of the '80s taken to its dumbest extreme". Due to the questionable legal status of mash ups and little chance of profits "there's a real punk rock attitude attached to the movement".[3]

Cultural critic and legal commentator Siva Vaidhyanathan has commented that "The most interesting and entertaining phenomenon of the MP3 libraries on peer-to-peer systems is the availability of "mashes" - new compositions created by combining the rhythm tracks of one song and the vocal tracks of another." Noting that mashups have a rich history he observes that "It is merely the latest incarnation of a widely shared, deeply embedded cultural habit of cultural recombination across time and space."[

About US:

YUME Music is an innovative music and event promotion branch of YUME, looking to capture the imagination of the New York independent music scene, with a focus on Brooklyn Artists and Bands. We currently produce a monthly event at our Brooklyn loft and will expand to 5 events per month in the Fall.. At the core of YUME Music's work is our website, (coming June 2009), our street promotion, and our weekly, monthly and annual events.

What exactly do we do?

We find and promote top independent musicians to give them the larger audience that they deserve. We find bands and singer-songwriters through our research, word of mouth, and submissions. We promote through our shows, street promotion, and of course our website. Basically, we act as a free promotion service for music that we believe in.

We also handle bookings for live events and yours for the bands and artists we work with.What kind of music are we interested in?

Innovative music with a focus on the art of song, from hip hop to punk to folk. We are not guided by any single genre or musical style.
